PerfectDisk Professional is one of the best disk defragmenting tools available. A similar product I like is the "Diskeeper Professional Premier ". I can say that both are equally good. They are the best at disk defragmenting.
Often, files can get fragmented. This means that a single, big file requires a lot of space in a disk and the space it occupies is not contiguous. So, while accessing the file, it might take a lot of time and the disk activity is also increased. That means a loss of time and a shorter life of the hard disk.
